Import Option: Click on the down arrow next to Import Option to see filters that have been used before. Import Data File: Click Choose File… to locate the text file you saved from PubMed.
Open EndNote and under the File menu, select Import. Now, save the file to your desktop or another easy to remember location. Instead, you must save your citations as a text file and then import them into EndNote. PubMed is one of the few major databases that cannot export references directly to EndNote. You may see a screen that says Windows Can’t Open this File. Change the drop box to 200 (this way you ensure all your citations move over) and then click Create File. Click the Send to link near the top right of the screen. Check the boxes to the left of the citations you wish to move into EndNote. Utilizing the “Citation Manager” option will prompt EndNote to directly import citations when you follow these instructions. Importing Citations using PubMed’s Citation Manager (works with up to 200 citations) Look for options like “direct export,” Send to EndNote,” or “Export to Reference Software.” NOTE: The export feature may have different names in different databases. You may want to move them to a group at this time. The imported citations will appear in your EndNote Library in a special group called Imported References. Select EndNote from the available options. Your browser may prompt you to pick a program to open the file with. Make sure that “Direct Export to EndNote, ProCite, CITAVI, or Reference Manager” is selected and then, check the “Save” button on the left side of the screen. 
Near the right hand side of the screen, select the “Export” option. Click the folder icon near the top right hand side of the screen. From the list of results, select the citations you want to save by clicking the “Add to Folder” link. The following steps work in EBSCO databases (such as CINAHL and Academic Search Elite). The steps may vary slightly between databases. Most online databases offer an Export feature that allows you to transfer citations directly into an EndNote library.
